July 26th: historical continuity of the Revolution

Santiago de Cuba, historical setting, transcends and makes the city gleams like hero as a true hotbed of patriotism that vibrates. Before a new anniversary converge mixed feelings in the past memory, after see the shooting traces, which recapitulate the early morning of July 26th, 1953.
That day, 135 fighters, dressed in army uniforms and led by Fidel Castro, gave the latest guidance. Three groups were ready; one was led by the Commander and was bound the strength, the other guide by Abel Santamaría, second chief of the movement and Raul Castro; the goal was the Civil Hospital and the Justice Palace buildings adjacent to Moncada.
The light of the Apostle guides them in that dark night lit; it was José Martí centenary and two barracks were being assaulted.
They were ready, the young poet Raul Gomez Garcia read the manifesto "We are already in Combat", then Fidel uttered the last words: "Comrades, may be overcome within a few hours or be overcome; tomorrow but anyway, listen to me very well, anyway ! the movement will triumph. If we win tomorrow, he will soon drew Martí´s hope . If the opposite happens, the gesture will be an example to the Cuban people, to take the flag and move on. Centennial Youth of the Apostle! As at 68 and 95, here in the East take the first cry of Freedom or death! "
It was the will of the revolutionaries who had driven here, but in the final minute gave only 131 forward. It was now 4:00 am, and the cars went towards Santiago. The assailants were in total disadvantage against a superior enemy in arms and men. While this was happening in Santiago, 28 revolutionaries stormed the headquarters of Bayamo, operation that also failed.
The next few hours after the assault were bloody. Batista ordered ten revolutionaries were murdered for every soldier killed in combat, many of them were killed in the following days. Only six attackers of both quarters had perished in the fight; but the repressive regime forces killed 55, and two people outside the events.
Fidel described the crime in his plea "History Will Absolve Me": "There was killed during a minute, an hour or a whole day, but in a full week, beatings, torture, launches roof and shooting did not stop an instantly killing as an instrument managed by craftsmen perfect crime. The Moncada barracks became a workshop of torture and death, and some unworthy men became the military uniform in butchers aprons".
The setback did not stop the excitement Centennial Moncada generation. Abel Santamaria's eyes followed illuminating the underground struggle and at Sierra Fidel fought hard. The Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks showed the libertarian vocation of Cubans. Stocks held on July 26th, 1953 by Fidel Castro Ruz and other young people from the Centennial Generation, did not let José Martí ideas, Apostle of Independence, they died a century after his birth. A purpose of the commemoration of 62 years of that historic event, the Cuban people confirms the unbreakable will to keep the vocation and the fighting spirit and commitment of those young people, who sacrificed their lives for the victory of the revolutionary cause alive.
