Cuban Children''s Theater Group Dazzles Nicaraguans

Managua - The Cuban children''s theater company La Colmenita dazzled Nicaraguan audiences with the play "La Cucarachita Martina", a show full of music and dance with the participation of children from this Central American country.

The performances of a little cockroach looking for a boyfriend and other characters like the grumble bear or the little mouse that finally conquer the protagonist, attracted the audience at the "Ruben Dario" National Theater in this capital.

There were several occasions when the audience, fascinated by a magic only possible by the presence of children, decided last night to leave their seats and move to the rhythm of Nicaraguan and Cuban songs.

"Nicaragua, Nicaragüita," or other emblematic songs by the Cuban bands Los Van Van and Adalberto Alvarez y su Son flowed over the party, in which "Cancion Urgente para Nicaragua" (Urgent Song for Nicaragua), composed by singer songwriter Silvio Rodriguez, had to be present.

We rejoiced at having La Colmenita here, there is no best cultural bridge for our peoples than children, theater director Ramon Rodriguez said after introducing the play, which was staged twice on Saturday.

We are promoting the values to children through art, music and culture, said Rodriguez, who described the company as emblematic and thanked its director, Carlos Alberto Cremata, and the Cuban Embassy for their support in this effort.

The Cuban and Nicaraguan children delighted an audience eager for more, but definitely they will do it again on Sunday, when the charms of the little cockroach will show again at the Salvador Allende port, this time to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison.

La Colmenita, founded in the 1990s, and has planted many seeds in other nations and was declared UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador in 2007.
