Alicia Alonso Visits Artemisa

Assoluta prima ballerina Alicia Alonso and Dr. Pedro Simon, opened in Artemisa the exhibition Meeting of Harmonies I: Alicia Alonso in Egypt as part of the activities to pay tribute to the tenth anniversary of Artv broadcasting station.

Seventeen impressions on pottery, a glass cabinet and a papyrus gifted to the dancer by Dulce Maria Loynaz( Poet and Cervantes Prize winner) , are part of the exhibition that includes moments when the great Cuban Ballet diva visited the distant country.

Photographs by Dr. Pedro Simon shows Alicia captivated by the Egyptian culture, an experience that he has not forgotten.

According to Jose Ramon Neyra, "Alicia Alonso has traveled to Egypt in various ways. In the scene, using two approaches to the legendary Queen Cleopatra VII in 1979, with the ballet The Death of Cleopatra, on the homonymous cantata by Hector Berlioz, choreographed by Vittorio Biagi; and in 1994, with Everlasting Cleopatra , choreography by Ivan Monreal Alonso ".

The exhibition is in the lobby of Artv broadcasting station as an exceptional gift of artists to Artemisa’s settlers , and specifically to workers of the media , that will celebrate its tenth anniversary next September 3rd.

A stamp was registrated at the opening as a living memory of the meeting, where the applauses served as infinite gratitude to the great Diva of Dance.
