Guide woman: sublime alternative

The Federation of Cuban Women since its foundation promotes programs aimed at achieving the full realization of equality of women in all areas and levels of society. The creation of the Focus Houses on Women and the Family is a space of confluences with the aim of providing assistance to people who need to know how to keep family life as the main social nucleus where different problems arise and conflicts affecting the behavior of those who comprise mainly children and the elderly. In the  55th anniversary process of FMC talked with Omaria Suárez Chávez, member of the Secretariat attending the House and prevention tasks.

How the FMC insert the working objectives of the House in the 55th anniversary process?

Precisely the 55th anniversary process includes the strengthening structures, for it we project basis for consolidating support networks which integrate the multi-sectoral team as a way to respond to women and family problems. Our being reason is the priority attention and demands of the population, especially women and family problems. We design and implement actions to empower females in different subjects for their full development and provide security to maternity, avoid early pregnancy, alcoholism or violence among other issues of today's society.

What priorities have on the agenda?

The work is consistent and individualized it but still is not enough. For example the coordinated work with social workers, the official serving under the Municipal Directorate of Education, Culture and Sports and other factors, children up to 18 years in the Victoria task having families that one member meets sanctions. We visited prisons and even took proposals action including benefits of Educate Your Son program, cultural, sporting and recreational deepen our shared responsibility for the integration of the family as part of proposals for healthy lifestyles . It works together with the school and institutions for the care of certain social problems that may occur as prostitution, permanent monitoring to student retention and support to parent councils.

Regarding violence and its many forms; how project it?

In the territory is work from the neighborhood and the nearest prone families or risk. Violence against women and the impact on the family and the importance in the education of children is a priority for health activists that exist in each area. The home visit, the exchange with the participation of specialists and provide support when they come to ask for help or to the claim of a family member or the neighborhood.

Overcoming is an effective way in dealing with women. What activities do?

Guidance Houses around the country are spaces for reflection and orientation, have the support of collaborators from different professions and organizations who contribute their expertise to guide women and the family. Among them is relevant to their work on gender training for social performance and integration into working life, now is increasing the presence of females in the form of self-employment. Training courses that prepare them in different trades that are useful for their work and social life is also developed. Exchange knowledge and guide them to a better life; it also provides counseling and social indiscipline are prevented from the perspective of the problems at home and environment.

Since its founding on August 23rd, 1960 by Vilma Espin, the FMC became one of the most important achievements of the revolution in the field of gender equality, and in defense of the women rights, especially their integration into society in the various branches of economic and social life of the country. Applauding the work of women is to recognize the achievements of the sector and the biggest tribute on this 55th birthday.
