Cuban Female Cyclist Guerra To Compete in Chilean Tournament

Matanzas, Cuba - Outstanding Cuban cyclist Lisandra Guerra confirmed here her attending the Pan American track cycling championship, scheduled for Santiago de Chile on Sep. 1-6.

Guerra told Prensa Latina that besides this competition, she will take part in the Cali World Cup, in November, in Colombia, as part of qualifiers for the Olympic Games of Brazil in 2016.

"I feel physically fine, though I will get to the Chilean tournament with 15 days less of training. Regarding the Olympics, a training strategy has been set to get there on top form," she said.

Considered one of the best cyclists ever in Cuba, Guerra recovered successfully from an injury suffered on July 19 during the 17th Pan American Games in Toronto, where she pocketed two silver medals.

Guerra, 27, was born in Colon, Matanzas province, some 180 km east of Havana. She started cycling at 10 years of age and in 2014 she was proclaimed Athlete of the Year in Matanzas.
