Parachutists from Four Countries to Compete in Cuba

Varadero, Cuba - Athletes from Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Peru and the United States will compete here from August 12 to 15 in the 2nd Friendship Cup of Parachuting, in the category of accuracy landing.
Omar Gomez, head of the organizing committee, reported Prensa Latina that 45 parachutters of both sexes will attend the competition and the struggle will focus on the Brazilian and Cuban representations, with three teams each.
The venue will be the International Parachuting Center (CIP) of this seaside resort, the most important of the island and located on the northern coast of the western province of Matanzas, and 140 kilometers (86.9 miles) east of Havana.
Gomez said the invitation was given by the Aviation Club de Cuba (CAC) and the Cuban Federation of Parachuting.
The main objectives of the competition citing the exchange of experiences and strengthening the bonds of friendship between federation and sportsmen.
Events will include jumps of individual (M and F) and teams, also for men and ladies; and competition program includes eight qualifying rounds, a semifinal and the final, said Gomez.
"Russia must reach a collective but after the conclusion of the finals, and Europeans will focus on a training base," he said.
Gomez added that this Friendship Cup II will serve as preparation for local and other competitors, facing the Latin American Championship set free fall from September 22 to 27 in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
The Center started its operations in 1993 and has several offers for leisure and recreation of tourists visiting this pole as the tandem jump, single jump, videos and pictures in free fall.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''.
