Havana - President Raul Castro congratulated Cuban women on occasion of the 55th anniversary of their organization, whose main event was held in Bayamo, Granma newspaper reported.

The congratulation was notified by the general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), Teresa Amarelle Boure, in the aforementioned ceremony.

Amarelle Boue said the message becomes a commitment, and said the organization will continue ensuring the unity of women for the sake of defending the Revolution.

Speaking at the ceremony in the capital of the eastern province of Granma, Olga Lidia Tapia, member of the Central Committee of the Secretariat of the Cuban Communist Party, recalled that the FMC's main objective since its founding was the full integration of women into the socio-economic changes in the country.

The organization was founded on August 23, 1960 by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and heroine, Vilma Espin.

Tapia mentioned, among the achievements promoted by the organization, childcare system, contributions to a modern legislation for the protection of children, as well as the strengthening of the sex education program and progresses in labor and wage policies.
