Surgical Operations Resumed at Comandante Pinares Hospital

Artemisa, Cuba - An investment ‘s worth 12,000 Cuban pesos and above 600 CUC allowed to connect water supply for operating rooms in Comandante Pinares General Teaching Hospital and due to that surgical activity was reactivated, which stopped its service during the first quarter of the current year.

Of some 10,000 interventions planned for the year (traditional figure) until the end of July and they amounted more than 7000, most of them performed from March on, when four new big tanks, and hydraulic facilities splitting the water supply to the operating rooms from other facilities came into action, said Dr. Carlos Luis Enriquez, director of hospital located in San Cristóbal Township.

According to the source itself, from January to March they gave priority to emergency and cancer surgeries , so it was of vital intersectorial support to revitalize service to current levels.

Repairs also included the seal of major leaks, responsible for the loss of almost 50 percent of water ; however there are other less important reparations , equally damaging, whose repair requires more time.

Comandante Pinares hospital was inaugurated by Fidel Castro Ruz on March 17,1982. It has 440 beds, offers 42 medical specialties, several has provincial category. The hospital has this year more than 500 students, including postgraduate education, from Cuba and abroad.

An infant mortality rate of 3.5 per thousand live births until July (and it should be less), and a vast experience in the regenerative surgeries (stem cell therapies) and minimum access, are advances posted in its digital portal http: / /instituciones.sld.cu/hgdcpinares/, appropriate for academic exchange.
