Güira de Melena acting for the local development

Artemisa, Cuba - The project Bases Ambientales para la Sostenibilidad Alimentaria Local (Environmental Basis for the Sustainable Local Food) implemented in the municipality of Güira de Melena achieve numerous progress and results in terms of support the adaptation to climate change in the agricultural sector through new equipment received and the change of mentality on farmers and producers.
Trainings, workshops and exchanges with managers, policy makers and producers in order to strengthen good practices and the implementation of Mini-industry "San Miguel" in the Cooperative of Credit and Services "Frank País" are among the project's progresses, according to the coordinator Mireya Lorenzo Acosta.
Among the carried out analysis till the present date there are various diagnosis to the soils in order to determine the degree of deterioration and compaction. At the same time the replacement of the irrigation systems are projects to aim to make efficient use of water.
