Tokyo - The president of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), Sebastian Coe, admitted today the process to recover public trust after the doping and corruption scandals that rocked the organization will be a long and difficult one.

However, the 59-year-old former runner said the changes implemented by the entity are aimed at 'creating a clean platform for clean athletes.'

I am sure that the changes that I'm involved in will be made between now and the end of the year, said Coe, who is visiting Tokyo as chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA).

The head of the IAAF has had to stand up since last August in the darkest moment for his organization, shaken by the doping scandal in Russia, and bribes to IAAF officials to silence doping positives.

As I said, we do not know how long will be the way to restore confidence, but we must make changes. We must advance the reforms for which I have given the green light by our Council, he said.

Coe stressed that the debate should be conducted in the field of integrity and trust.
