Cuban GM Arribas ranks fifth Continental Women’s Chess Championship

Cuban GM Maritza Arribas appears 5th with 2.5 points of possible 3 during the third round of the Continental Women’s Chess Championship that runs in Lima, capital of Peru.

The second seed of the tourney defeated yesterday Colombian FM Laura Lucía Domínguez and will rival Argentine IM Ayelen Martinez during the second of the two matches scheduled for today.

Martinez appears ninth with two units after losing to the local GM Deysi Cori, first seed of the event, who is on top of the standings with 3 points and better tiebreak than American GM Tatev Abrahamyan and IM Colombian Angela Franco.

Abrahamyan beat yesterday American IM Ashritha Eswaran and Franco won over the local FM Laura Paredes, according to the specialized site www.chess-results.com.

Cori and Abrahamyan will face each other today while Franco will clash with Paraguayan IM Jennifer Perez, who appears fourth with 2.5 units after defeating Argentine IM María Florencia Fernandez.

The biggest incentive of the event is the World Cup ticket for the winner, which will be defined in rapid games in case of tie.

This tournament is attended by 38 players from 9 countries and will finish on February 29.
