Jose Mojica wins Cuban cycling title for second year in a row

Artemisa´s Jose Mojica retained his title of 2015, when winning the Guantánamo-Pinar del Rio-Havana cycling tour , which last stage was won by Havana’s Leandro Marcos.

Thus, Mojica was consolidated as the best Cuban road cyclist today after his performance at the event, which had in Artemisa, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo the three leading teams, in that order, said the online edition of JIT sports publication.

This final stage of 123 kilometers between the towns of Pinar del Rio and Havana featured three intermediate sprints which went to Artemisa´s Felix Nodarse, in San Cristobal, Marcos, in Guanajay, and M ayabeque´s Alai Rodriguez, in the Sports City, in Havana.
Marco’s tough rivals in this twelfth stage were Guantanamo ’s Onel Santa Clara, and Nodarse, respectively.

I had spent two years trying to win this stage (second in 2014 and third in 2015) and I got it now against strong sprinters. It has not been my best competition (he finished 39th in the general classification), but it is always stimulating at least to win a stage, and especially in Havana, said Marcos.

I took care of everyone, especially of Pedro Portuondo, Jans Carlos Arias and Vicente Sanabria, although there were also some young riders with potential as Alvaro Soca and Frank Consuegra, said Marcos who will be 29 on August 16.

On the retake of the Cuba Tour, Hector Marcos, national commissioner, said they want to inscribe it on September this year in the International Cycling Union (UCI by its French acronym).

However, there is a pending economic issue, because to have foreign teams, awards and electronic timing, among other requirements required by UCI, about $ 40,000 are needed, Ruiz noted.
