Cuban Paralympic Athlete Nominated for Laureus Awards

Berlin - Cuban paralympic athlete Omara Duran appears among the nominated ones in the category for Best Disabled Sportswoman of the 2015 on the Laureus Awards World Sports, given to know by the Laureus Awards Foundation.
Duran, a female athlete belonging to the T12 Category for athletes with deep visual weekness, improved her own record in the 100 flat meters down to 11.48 seconds in Doha, United Arab Emirates.
Duran also won the competitions in the 200 and 400 flat meters, beating four world records in her category.
When running the 200 meters, she reached a record of 23.03 seconds and best her own record of 23.38 set in the clssification round.
Two days before, she had also broken the world primacy of the 400 meters T12, stopping watches in 53.05 and getting her first title of the event.
The Cuban also won the 100, 200 and 400 meters at the Parapan American Games in Toronto, Canada in July.
Next to the Caribbean, as nominees, in the category of disabled athletes, there are Brazilian swimmer Daniel Dias, Chinese Liu Cuiqing, South African Pieter Du Preez and Leung Yuk Wing of Hong Kong.
All of them aspire to poach the award, known as the Oscar of sports, whose ceremony will take place in Berlin, on April 18.
The Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi and the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt are two of the nominees in the category for Best Male Athlete of the year 2015.
Bolt, winner of the award on three occasions (2009, 2010 and 2013), is the second most recognized, behind Swiss Roger Federer totaling four (2005, 2006,2007 and 2008).
Among the ladies there will be the winner of the previous year, the world record in 1500 metres, Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba, Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and American tennis player Serena Williams.
The New Zealand All Blacks, rugby world champions, aspire to the award by teams, competing against Spanish club Barcelona, the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, the British tennis team of the Davis Cup, the Mercedes Formula 1 team and the American female soccer team.
Also among the nominees for the awards is the soccer selection of Chile, in the category of revelation team, by their victory over Argentina in the final of the America Cup.
The prizes are awarded in seven categories: best male athlete, best female athlete, best extreme athletes, the best disabled athlete and the best team of the year, as well as the best sports revelation and the most impressive sports comeback.
