
San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba - The Coronary Care Unit of the General Teaching Hospital ''Ivan Portuondo'' of the municipality ended the last quarter of 2015 with zero mortality rate. Now, it is a multipurpose room. The antechamber presents 5.1 of mortality, according to the Cardiologist Rogelio Perez Collado, Master in intensive care and Head of the department.
The multipurpose room hosts, since the beginning of the current year, over 100 cases, many of whom returned home with the treatment required, depending on their ailments as angina, acute myocardial infarction, certain severe cardiac arrhythmias and congestive heart failure.
The unit, credited as a Provincial Reference Center, aspires to be a room for teaching, thanks to the 5 cardiologists and 29 nurses, all of them with a first level attention and fulfillment of their mission: to improve their patient's quality life. Currently, three specialists of the unit meet a mission in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
