Cuban Fighter vs. Terrorism Thanks Solidarity of Uruguayan Parliament

Montevideo - Cuban fighter against terrorism Ramon Labañino thanked  here the solidarity of the Parliament of Uruguay in the campaign for the release of the Five, as they are known in the world, in a meeting with parliamentarians from the Frente Amplio.

Senators from the ruling party Frente Amplio Leonardo de Leon, Marcos Carambula and Lauro Melendez received Hero of the Republic of Cuba Labañino at the headquarters of the Legislative Palace, along with Cuban Ambassador in Uruguay Mercedes Sotolongo and his wife Elizabeth Palmeiro.

On behalf of parliamentarians, De Leon thanked the historical solidarity of the Cuban people with Uruguay and praised the excellent state of ties between the two countries.

Referring to the reestablishment of the relations between Cuba and the United States, De Leon said that it represents the recognition to the courage and strength of the Cuban people during the several years confronted by the US attacks.

Labañino arrived last week in Montevideo, he was received by former President Jose Mujica at his house and participated in the 7th Union Meeting Our America.

He also held talks with members of the Coordinator of Support to the Cuban Revolution, to which he thanked on behalf of his comrades Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, the solidarity during the long years imprisoned in the United States.

Rene and Fernando were released in 2013 and 2014, respectively, after serving their sentences.

Hernandez, Labañino and Guerrero were released on December 17th, 2014, as part of the negotiation between Cuba and the United States that led later to the process to reestablish bilateral ties.
