Qatar Welcomes Entity Ensuring Workers of FIFA World Cup 2022

Doha - The Qatari government today welcomed the decision of FIFA to set up an independent committee to monitor the working conditions of workers in charge of facilities for the World Cup 2022.
Along with government representatives, the directors of the event's organizing committee welcomed the decision announced yesterday here by the President of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, according to official Qatari media declare today.
Infantino announced the creation of a body with independent members to monitor the systems to ensure 'decent working conditions'.
This dependence will operate in the stadiums of the World Cup and FIFA 'will redouble' its efforts to verify the installation of the dependence by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the official name of the organizing body.
As he explained, the composition of the new body, which will be led by FIFA, should include relevant sectors of civil society and other stakeholders of the international federation to monitor all the powers of the entity.
The leader was very pleased by the positive response and support offered by the Qatari authorities to this initiative and said he hoped the committee 'to become operational very, very soon' sources in Doha indicated.
In this regard, the government stressed its interest in ensuring the standards of the expatriate workforce to make their rights fully met, clearing out the critics from human rights organizations that even attacked the FIFA for an alleged passivity in this regard.
The head of the organizing committee, Hassan al-Thawadi promised that the 2022 tournament, the first in a Middle Eastern country, will honor the requirements of the FIFA because Qatar is committed to leave a lasting social legacy after the competition, even in the area workers' welfare.
This nation and other Arabs of the Persian Gulf are criticized due to the recruitment system known as kafala, by which employers withhold wages and passports of employees, deciding when they can travel to their countries or change jobs and being crowded into small and precarious rooms.
