San Salvador - An earthquake of 5.1 degrees on Richter scale shook today part of Salvador, at 05.50h local time, with no fatal victims of property damages reported.

The quake´s epicenter was located off the coast of San Vicente, 48km south of Zacatecoluca, adjacent to San Salvador, La Paz department, and 42km deep, informed the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

Yesterday the at 13:40h local time, another one of 4.6 degrees was perceived 101km southwest of Sonsonate, in the west area of the country.

El Salvador, located on the Pacific´s Ring of Fire, is a region of intense seismic activity generated by the subduction of the Cocos Plate beneath the Caribbean Plate and the activation of geological faults, both local and in neighboring countries such as Guatemala and Honduras.
