Cuba Continues Conducting Disaster Prevention Exercises

Havana-Cuba is still conducting the strategic exercise dubbed Meteoro 2016, in order to reduce disaster risks in case of droughts, epidemics, earthquakes and hurricanes.
The exercise is an important opportunity to exchange lessons learned on the management of the threats, the estimation of risks and the decision-making process, said Deputy Chief of Staff of the Civil Defense Luis Ángel Macareño, in an interview with Juventud Rebelde journal.
During the second and last day, a number of practical activities are expected to take place across the country, aimed at reducing vulnerabilities in the different territories.
Yesterday, authorities analyzed the current state of the drought, seismic and sanitary situations, as well as the forecasts for the 2016 hurricane season.
On the first day of the exercise, which has been carried out in the island since 1986, participants tested the functioning of communication and early warning systems, as well as the effectiveness of the different states of recovery.
