Validity of Jose Marti''s Ideas Stressed in Costa Rica

San Jose - Jose Marti''s struggle for the emancipation of Latin America and the Caribbean are still relevant today, the deputy director of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), Miguel Alvarado has said.
During the ceremony on occasion of the 121st anniversary of the fall in combat of Cuban National Hero, Jose Marti, which was held last night in the province of Puntarenas, Alvarado stated that sinister forces against democracy and social justice are still prevalent today in our region.
"Marti embodies, for us, the complete experience of the historical struggle, which we should continue, in order to achieve a truly independent Latin Americas and Caribbean region," he said.
Gerardo Hernandez, the head of the Jose Marti faculty at the UCR, stated that world equilibrium and universal harmony, basic Marti ideas, are the driving force that as Latin Americans we should carry out for the sake of a second independence of the American continent.
"Marti's ideas will live in everyone, and we will carry on his ideas and action as own, that is: create and build, never hate and destroy," Hernandez continued.
The commemoration of the fall in combat of the Cuban national hero has also enabled the establishment of the Jose Marti Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in Puntarenas, with Jeancarlo Bonilla as coordinator; Jairo Avila as secretary; and Karen Berrocal as treasurer.
