Training Ship of Venezuelan Navy Visits Santiago de Cuba

The Simon Bolivar training vessel of the Navy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, anchored on Thursday at the port of this city, from where it will depart on Sunday in the 28th cruise for training abroad, called Europe 2016.

On Thursday, a representation of cadets, officers and crew visited the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square and in the afternoon the commander of the vessel, Captain Alfonso De Gregorio Melendez, paid a courtesy visit to the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power.

At the headquarters of the governing body, he held a meeting with its vice-president, Beatriz Johnson, member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, and Captain Idalberto Moreno, deputy chief of the Revolutionary Navy of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR).

On Friday, members of the Simon Bolivar training vessel will pay tribute to National Hero Jose Marti at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, and will tour the July 26 Museum in the former Moncada Garrison. The following day they will go to Biran, Holguin, and visit the house where the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, was born.

Santiago's population will have the opportunity to visit the ship on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
