
Vladimir Putin, President of Russia received Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Vice-president of the Cuban Councils of State and Ministers and the delegation accompanying him on his first official visit.
During the meeting, held on Wednesday, the leaders reviewed the excellent state of relations between the two countries, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.Also addressed was the progress experienced in economic and commercial ties after the visit to Havana of President Putin in July 2014.
The parties also verified prospects for an effective participation of Russia in the Program for Economic and Social Development of Cuba until 2020.
Representing Cuba at the meeting were Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra and the island’s ambassador to Russia, Emilio Lozada, while Russia was represented at the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, co-president of the Intergovernmental Commission, Deputy Foreign Minister Serguei Ryabkov, and the presidential adviser for foreign policy, Yuri Ushakov.
