Madrid, Writer Evokes Cuban Solidarity vs. Ebola in Africa

Madrid - The work done by Cuban health professionals in Africa against the deadly Ebola virus, which has been recognized by the United Nations and other international organizations, has been evoked by the Cuban journalist Enrique Ubieta.
The writer and philosopher, Ubieta has presented his book 'Zona Roja: The Experience of Cuba with Ebola' at the Spanish capital.
The volume recounts his experiences accompanying the Cuban medical brigade in West Africa.
The group of physicians worked for six months in the center of the deadly epidemic.
In September 2014, facing the outbreak of the virus in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea Conakry, UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, made an urgent call to the international community, the journalist recalled.
He then phoned five international leaders asking for collaboration, four of them were leaders of economic powers (the United States, France, the United Kingdom and the European Council).
The fifth was the president of a small Third World country, Cuba, recalled the author of 'Zona Roja' in front of the audience gathered at the School of Industrial Relations at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Cuba was the one and only country to send health collaborators to the three countries affected by the disease.
About 256 doctors and nurses belonging to the Henry Reeve Brigade remained in the area for six months, Ubieta said.
