Polo Montañez''s Birthday Celebrated in Artemisa

Havana - By the rhythm of the most popular songs of Polo Montañez (1955-2002), the Puerto Rican singer Danny Rivera together with Cuban artists celebrated the birthday of the one known here as the ''natural Guajiro''.
The 'Jolgorio para Polo Montañez' is a tribute dedicated to him for three years now, by the inhabitants of Las Terrazas -a rural community in the province of Artemisa- to the life and work of one of its most illustrious sons.
Ever since I heard about it, I wanted to come, said Rivera, who could not meet Polo due to tragic accident in which he died, but he declares a deep admirer of Polo's compositions.
The celebration started on June 3 and concludes last Sunday: according to authorities, it is the best way to celebrate the World Environment Day and the birthday of Polo Montañez.
Fernando Borrego Linares (1955-2002), Polo Montañez for Cuba and the world, came to the stages after performing the most varied tasks in the countryside.
He quickly gained popularity with songs like 'Un montón de estrellas' and 'Flor Pálida', but a fatal car accident ended his life and his career on the rise.
Las Terrazas, where he lived much of his life, is a community in the Sierra del Rosario, part of the Biosphere Reserve, and famous for its breathtaking river and mountain landscapes.
