Cuba Stresses Progress of Strengthening Workers'' Rights

Geneva - Raymundo Navarro, a member of the Secretariat of the Workers'' Central Union of Cuba, has stressed here before the ILO the progress of strengthening the rights of the island''s workers.

Speaking at the 105th International Labor Conference, which continues today, Navarro referred to the progress made in recent years in the labor organization, a press communique of the Cuban Permanent Mission in Geneva expresses.

He also mentioned the increasingly active role that staff are taking in the economic battle to continue promoting the development of society and safeguard the labor, union and social rights achieved by the Revolution.

Navarro also expressed the his commitment to continue working constructively in the International Labor Organization and support the efforts of the institution to strengthen the full exercise of all rights.

"Cuban workers continue to face the negative impact of the U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade on the island, whose purpose was - and continues to be - to forcibly change the political, economic and social system sovereignly elected by its people," the union leader said.

Despite the persistence of this aggressive policy, the people continue making progress in the changes they have considered necessary to improve the economy and strengthen socialism, he said.

The current situation of workers worldwide is still very complex due to rising unemployment and poverty, violations of the most elementary rights of those who are migrants and the persistence of forced labor situations, among other problems that require urgent solutions, he also noted.
