Cuban Specialists working on local Beach Conservation

The conservation of the coastal areas of the sandy beaches, which are located to the north of Ciego de Ávila province, are among one of the main projects that are being carried out by the specialists of the local territorial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in that Cuban region.
The territory from Ciego de Ávila has 36 kilometers located in the local Jardines del Rey ecosystem with around 17 beaches through which it is monitored the erosion of the beaches as part of the climate change.
The environmental center in that territory is participating in the related scientific study of the Coastal Ecosystem of Ciego de Ávila province. They will use over $ 16 million Cuban-peso currency to recover the Espacio and Flamenco beaches through the filling of sand on the spot.
Rafael Pérez Carmente, who is the territorial provincial delegate, said to the local Radio Rebelde station that filling work will allow achieving a much better quality for those visiting that tourist resort.
Rafael Pérez Carmente explained that once the investment process was concluded for the month of October of the current year, it would enable to include 40 meters of area to sunbathe, along with an added value to the Ciego de Ávila tourist product.

Havana - Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto was appointed president of Casa de las Américas, the center's website La Ventana reported today.
Prieto, former minister of Culture and currently serving as director of the Marti Program Office and president of the José Martí Cultural Society, was nominated for the post by Alpidio Alonso, current Culture Minister.
