Cuban Minister of Culture Describes Havana as Admirable City

Havana-For the Cuban Minister of Culture, Julián González, Havana is today an admirable city, not only for its architecture, but for the persons who inhabit it, becoming a support of its cultural values.

"This is a city of enchantment and great charm", said Gonzalez to Prensa Latina after participating at the official ceremony, where Havana was declared one of the seven cities wonder of the modern world.

According to the official, it is a transcendental event that is also an act of justice, as the city founded in 1519 by Spain shelters an extraordinary cultural life.

"With its designation Havana reaffirms itself more each day as the capital of all Cubans for its charms, values and dignity, for the way it has survived for so many years to the crude situation imposed by the blockade", added Gonzalez.

In that sense, he emphasized that regardless of time and the problems caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States over 50 years ago, Havana is beautiful and joyful.

According to the minister, the recognition calls attention on the Cuban capital and its people that he believes is the most special element of the city, recognized worldwide for its unmistakeable natural landscapes and great cultural wealth.

The monument that distinguishes Havana as marvel city, unveiled in the

esplanade of the Castle of San Salvador de la Punta, at the entrance of the bay, will remain in that emblematic place to receive the travelers that enter the capitalâÖs bay or those who prefer to transit its streets.

In 2011, the Swiss Foundation New/Winders presented the campaign The new Seven Wonder Cities of the World and on December 7, 2014, Havana was selected as one of them by the vote online of millions of persons.
