Cuba and Curaçao Set Basis for Caribbean Integration

Havana -Curaçao´s Economic Development Minister, Eugene Philip Rhuggenaath, stressed today that his country has established general cooperation frameworks with Cuba for sustainable development projects that favor Caribbean integration, after almost six months of talks.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the official explained that the commitment was signed on Wednesday, Jun 8th, through a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment on the Caribbean island.
"We hope to promote maritime and port operations, technological innovation, telecommunications, promoting tourism and business in the energy sector," he said.
The Caribbean region is experiencing a historic moment for the revitalization of its mechanisms of dialogue and consultation, as the recent Seventh Summit of the Association of Caribbean States, held in Havana, evidenced.
"The companies engaged in port activities in the two countries have already begun exchanges. A similar meeting will be held in the upcoming hours to discuss the issue of special development zones and we will visit the enclave of Mariel," said Rhuggenaath.
The minister also praised the celebration, today, of a bilateral business forum, attended by major companies from his country in transportation, communications, manufacturing, logistics, finance and energy.
Both nations expect to promote the exploitation of renewable sources of energy and oil business with a Caribbean vision, the minister said.
