Singer Elain Morales and his Pride of being a Cuban

Cuban songwriter Elaín Morales presented his record entitled´Gracias´ at the Alicia Alonso Great Theater of Havana city. The musician talked about his records and his artistic career as part of an exclusive interview granted to the local Radio Rebelde station.

Before the question about the reason of having given that name to his record, he answered:

“Well, I named it as ´Gracias´ (Thank you) given this is a record for thanking all that audience which has accompanied me all this short and long journey around the world. I do believe that it was important thanking all my people and I wanted to do it through the music as that is the very best way I have to communicate with others.” Elaín Morales stated.

That fifth record includes nine songs written by him. It is produced by the U.S. Company named as Melomania Production that has edited all his previous works and has supported his musical career.

What could be possible different from this record named ´Gracias´?

“This is the continuity of my previous musical records and I also keep defending that sonority which is a mixture of some genres of the world music by looking for that universal identity and the fact that we could communicate with any part of the world based on the Cuban music, of course.”He said.

“In addition, we wanted to pay homage to the musical work of Juan Formell and Los Van Van band through the song entitled´La Salpicona´ given we always had the chance about being near of him and he was special with me and I wanted to honor a mutual feeling to that love, so it is good to let to know the influence from all the Cubans; besides, the musicians in general and especially me, have experienced that love through the music that has always been transmitted to us by the Van Van band.” Elaín Morales highlighted.

Which have been the musical influences of Elaín Morales to form the current songwriter in you?

“I have always listened lot of music since I was a child, it was the traditional Cuban music first and the songwriters who created the local Nueva Trova musical movement and the son musical genre. I have a deep influence in me from each of those songwriters. I am an artist who was formed on the Cuban streets. I had not the chance to go to a related school and I think that was what made me to look for much more.”

“When the musician comes from the street, then that makes you to look for more information. The rock and roll music was listened at my house since I was a child and I took a bit from each of them. I do believe that I am the result of all of that music that I have heard all my life. I am a tiredness seeker of music.” He said.

When it is ask to this songwriter the reason he chose the music as a career in spite of having not passed through a school of music, he replied without hesitating:

“I did not choose the music; I think it was the music the one that chose me, honestly. The music has been an incredible teacher; it has educated me as an artist and as a human being, too. I have been finding myself with the music little by little and I always say it when there is someone who asks me what kind of musician I am and at what level of music I see myself as a musician. I always say that that I am a musician who has breathed the music and has been founding myself with it, and actually, I am continuous finding myself inside it. “He pointed out.

“In addition, I think that the success is part of all trade that could be carried out with passion, and that is to say doing what I like the most. I do know lots of people who do not do what they really wanted to do and they are unhappy and I believe that it is important being happy with which one do, that is why, if I was not a musician, I would like to be it.” He said.

How do you feel when you are representing Cuba overseas?

I am going to talk to you as a Cuban and as a human being who was born in Cuba. It is a special feeling. I have had the chance about travelling around the world by representing my work and wherever I get and say that I am from Cuba, then there are many smiles and many doors are opened. I do feel proud about being a Cuban.” He highlighted.

“One of the times that I have been most impressed was a journey to New York city to a concert where I had the chance to travel around the city for some additional hours. Moreover, I saw a statue dedicated to José Marti, which is the biggest one there, when I went to its Central Park and it was full of flowers and there were many people there. I felt then pride about being from Cuba which means an incredible feeling. Therefore, it has been a privilege having born, having being formed and continue living in this nation.” Elain Morales said.

Elain Morales is a young songwriter who is currently sharing his music through the new aforementioned record. We will find again a man who always shows his Cuban idiosyncrasy and gratitude as part of his personality, through it.”
