More than 550 Arrests in France in 10 days during Euro Cup

Paris - French law enforcement arrested 557 fans for participating in violent incidents since the start of the European football championship on June 10, reported today Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

Of that number, 344 people were under arrest and 27 prison sentences (21 of them with effective imprisonment) were issued, he explained after a meeting on security in the tournament.

Added to this, more than 20 foreign fans were expelled from the country, he said.

Cazeneuve stressed that several tens of thousands of police and gendarmes are mobilized on the device of Euro.

In his opinion, the safety of fans zones "is properly guaranteed," but reiterated that "zero risk does not exist" and that the main terrorist threat remains.

Euro was marred by repeated clashes in which fans were involved multiple selections.

After the incident, the French Interior Ministry announced the extension of the ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol in the sensitive perimeters of the host cities.

He explained that asked the prefects (government representatives) to implement such bans Eve and match days and days of opening areas of fans.

He also said that "these security actions will continue throughout the entire competition", which will end on July 10.
