Cuba beats Sussex County Miners in Can-Am baseball league

Cuba achieved its fifth win in the competitive tour against teams from the Can-Am League when beating 4-2 the Sussex County Miners.

For the first time the Cuban team managed to reach two consecutive wins in the North American baseball circuit in match won by right-hander Freddy Asiel Alvarez, who allowed two earned runs and struck out seven batters in six innings.

Miguel Lahera was awarded the save after effective relief of two and two thirds innings, while starting pitcher Ray Hanson took the loss.

The Sussex County Miners opened the score in the first inning, but Cuba tied in the fourth thanks to an RBI by Yoelvis Fiss, and added two more runs in the fifth, driven in by Yasiel Santoya.

Cuba would add another run in the sixth for tranquility of the starter Freddy Asiel Alvarez, who was replaced by Lahera in the seventh inning, but not before allowing the second run of the defeated squad.

Now the Caribbean side has negative balance of five wins and seven losses in the tour agreed to 19 games against teams of the Can-Am League.

The pupils of manager Roger Machado will face again today the Sussex County Miners in continuation of their competitive tour of several cities in Canada and the United States, training process for upcoming international events.
