Mogens Lykketoft, president of the seventieth period of sessions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) (Photo), highlighted today the example of Cuba in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals promoted by that body.

The top UN official was received at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry by Cuban Foreign Minister (FM) Bruno Rodriguez, as part of his official visit to the Cuban nation.

Lykketoft praised the continuity of Cuba in the realization of these goals, given the level of equality in its society and its high standards in the areas of health and education in the country.

He referred to the importance attached by the UN General Assembly to the strengthening of its instruments, especially the Security Council of the UN, as well as progress on issues of sustainable development, peace, human rights and the environment.

In his words to the top official, Rodriguez said that for Cuba the UNGA has been essential in its demands for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US on the Caribbean island for more than half a century.

The FM highlighted the contribution of the debates and votes made every year within this organization for the elimination of Washington’s unilateral siege.
