
Cuban baseball squad attending the Can-Am League concluded the qualifying phase with balance of 10 wins and 9 losses when losing 3-5 to the New Jersey Jackals.
The hosts took the lead in the opening inning when scoring four runs off starter and defeated left-hander Yoanni Yera, who could only pitch a third of inning at the Yogi Berra Park in the farewell of the squad coached by Roger Machado.
Yera was replaced by Lazaro Blanco who only allowed one earned run in four and two-third innings, with 7 strikeouts.
Cubans got closer in the third inning when scoring three runs driven in by outfielder Luis Robert Moiran and DH Jefferson Delgado (2), but that was all.
Livan Moinelo and Miguel Lahera, the other two Cuban relievers, did not allow freedom to the Northern team.
The also reliever Matt Parish was the winner of the match as the starting pitcher, David Anderson, only pitched three innings.
This was the final official game in the Can–Am League for Cubans, who will play tomorrow an exhibition match versus the Japanese side of Shikoku Island, also invited to the tourney, before returning home a day later.
The New Jersey Jackals (25-14) remain second in the standings, which is led by the Quebec Capitales (26-12).
