Russian Scientists Design New Cancer Treatment

Moscow -  A group of scientists from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Novosibirsk, Siberia, have designed a new method of diagnosis and cure of cancer in the human body.

According to a publication of the Urals branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Science in Siberia, the researchers have also created a novel means of destroying cancer cells.

The team studied the efficiency of a genetic marker in cancer cells during the treatment of ovarian and stomach cancer.

Identifying malignant cells before and after treatment allows scientists to determine with a maxim accuracy whether tumors were eliminated or if a relapse is possible, said the researchers.

The scientists were able to cure two forms of malignant tumors in mice in laboratory tests, according to the institution.

According to the statement, the researchers will apply this form of destroying stem cells to other types of malignant formations.

Around 27 thousand new patients with cancer are registered annually in Moscow and there are 19 thousand deaths.

According to the medical authorities, the situation in the regions does not differ much from the capital.

Skin, uterus, esophagus and lung cancer stand out by the level of incidence.

More than two million patients are officially on Russia's oncology record.
