Following the people's mandate

During the commission meeting on Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment, yesterday July 6, Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel emphasized the importance of high tech, export-quality products to generate more income for the country's development.
Discussing the Cuban state enterprise BioCubaPharma, the Political Bureau member and first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers called on the "biotechnology system to contribute not only more exports to the country and to our economy, but also more advanced technology."
Commission president, Deputy Carlos Gutiérrez Calzado, presented some facts about BioCubaPharma's performance during 2015, noting that the company guarantees the supply of 569 of the 578 medications included in the Public Health system's list of basic drugs, in addition to being involved in important cancer research and even the agriculture-livestock sector.
Other National Assembly commissions meeting yesterday discussed a wide variety of topics, including corruption; the functioning of public libraries; laws needed for the practical implementation of approved policy guidelines; and the development of livestock ranching.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
