Cuban Ballet Dedicates Performances to Fidel Castro''s 90th Birthday

Havana - The Cuban National Ballet (BNC) will present a special program on Saturday and Sunday at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater in Havana that will be dedicated to the 90th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
"Dionaea, Percussion for Six Men" and "Grand pas de Paquita" are some of the choreographies to be staged by the company, founded by Fernando, Alberto and Alicia Alonso in 1948.
The BNC will perform a few days later on the same stage, where it will present the classic "Don Quixote," a fundamental choreography in the company's repertoire by Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, based on the original by French choreographer Marius Petipa.
This time, the leading roles will be performed by Anette Delgado, Viengsay Valdes, Sadaise Arencibia, Grettel Morejon and Dani Hernandez on July 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24.
This way, the Cuban National Ballet joins the cultural activities taking place in the country to celebrate Fidel Castro´s 90th birthday on August 13.
Recently, Alicia Alonso recalled the support offered by the extraordinary politician to the development of ballet in Cuba.
Alonso recalled in a statement how the triumph of the Revolution brought for the first time a cultural policy that supported the progress of the most diverse artistic expressions.
