US Promises Military Assistant to Iraq to Expel IS from Mosul

Baghdad- The United States said on Monday that it will send military advisers to help the government forces in Iraq to establish a major air and logistic hub that will allow re-conquering Mosul, which is currently held by the Islamic State (IS). After arriving in Baghdad for an unannounced visit, US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter made the confirmation at his meetings with commanders from the US Armed Forces and Iraqi political officials.
According to the Pentagon chief, the Iraqi security forces and the army will established the "major air and logistic hub" in the air base of Qayara, south of Mosul and recently liberated from the control of DAESH, the acronym of the IS in Arabic.
With such an end, Washington will send advisors and military personnel to that facility to help the local command to organize the offensive on the capital of Ninive province and the second largest city in Iraq, which is considered the last major bastion of DAESH in the country.
The government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Saturday that the Iraqi troops had re-conquered Qayara, some 60 kilometers south of Mosul, as a result of the advance of antiterrorist forces by land and air support from the US-led international coalition.
According to Carter, who met with Al-Abadi and Defense Minister Khaled al-Obaidi, the recapture of the air base of West Qayara was important because the purpose is to create a logistic hub there, thus there will be US logistic support.
