Washington - The presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton participates today in this capital at the national conference of the League of United Latin American Citizens (Lulac) to address the political priorities of Hispanics and build support among their leaders.
Among the main demands of Lulac facing the presidential elections in November there are the fight for immigration reform, social justice and greater opportunities, an agenda that will be also taken to the Democratic and Republican conventions.
They also work to achieve more job creation, access to health services and strengthening the housing, education, civil rights and voting rights programs.
Lulac leaders criticized the anti-immigrant rhetoric of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who branded the immigrants as "criminals" and promised the expulsion of undocumented immigrants.
According to Roger Rocha, Lulac's national president, "the only way to silence this kind of negativity is going to vote (...) and to be seen whether the anti-immigrant faction wins, but I have full confidence that there is much more sensible people out there, who will want to send the message that this is not the direction in which we want to lead our country. "
The Lulac's national convention will maintain its sessions until July 16, and besides Clinton, also participate as guests the Senator Bernie Sanders, former Democratic presidential candidate; Attorney General Loretta Lynch, the secretaries Julián Castro (Housing) and Tom Vilsack (Agriculture), and the director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Gina McCarthy, among other government officials.
