
Cuban duos of Sergio Gonzalez-Nivaldo Diaz and Yanisleidis Sanchez-Lidiannis Echeverria won gold medals at the eighth stop of NORCECA Beach Volleyball circuit.
With stage in the sands of Barcelo Solymar Arenas Blancas Hotel, in Varadero, Gonzalez and Diaz defeated 2-1 (21-13, 19-21, 15 -13) in the final Canadians Michael Plantinga and Cameron Wheelan.
Speaking to JIT sports publication, Diaz said that this result is very important because it is the last chance they have to compete before doing so in the Rio Olympics.
The also Cubans Liosbel Mendez and Yendris Castillo lost 0-2 (12-21 and 18-21) to Americans McLachlin and Miles Evans, in the bronze medal match.
Meanwhile, the women´s pair of Sánchez and Echeverria won the scepter by beating 2-1 (13-21, 21-19 and 15-10) Americans favorite Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen.
The bronze medal of the women´s event went to Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Julie Gordon, who defeated 2-1 (21-18, 13-21, 15-11) Cubans Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez.
