Paris - Around 70 percent of Air France-KLM crew members joined the strike that began on Wednesday, a union spokesperson reported today.

Each day, the rate of employees on strike has been around 30 or 40 percent and is increasing, something that forced the company to cancel more flights, initially 13 percent and 20 percent now, said Christophe Pillet, member of the union SNPNC-FO.

Today, they estimated 42 percent of the employees on strike, thus the company just can guarantee 90 percent of its international flights, slightly more than 70 percent of the European flights and more that 80 percent of the domestic flights, according to a communique.

For tomorrow, they that expect 40 percent of the crew members declares themselves on strike, thus the cancellations will be similar to today's percentage.

With the objective of counteracting the affected operations, Air France has ordered personnel that usually works on land to flight, but the impact on services has been significant, especially because it happened in the middle of the summer high season.

The reason for the strike planned up to Tuesday was disagreement by flight attendants with the time to renew and agreement in the company to set the rules for its working contracts.
