LACLAC Proposes Cuba to Join World Civil Aviation Council

The 22 member states of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC) elected Cuba from the eight countries in the region that aspire to occupy a seat in the council of the International Civil Aviation Organization, in its next meeting.
Carlos Fernando Velasquez, president of the CLAC, told the press today that to support the candidacy of Cuba to represent Latin America in that forum stood out among the agreements reached at the 88th meeting of the executive committee of the organization, held for two days in this capital.
Velasquez, also director-general of Civil Aeronautics of Guatemala, highlighted the Cuba’s predominant performance in the organization in areas such as air transport and operational safety.
He recalled that the Caribbean nation grew 18 percent in passenger traffic during 2015, and it is expected to reach about 25 to 30 percent at the end of this year.
During the 39th Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization, scheduled for September 27 to October 7 in Montreal, Canada, the clusion of Cuba, Panama, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay will be analyzed.
