Nevertheless, Cuban

Orlando Ortega Cuba is home of excellent athletes that put the name of the island on the top of international events. Nevertheless, in the summer event in Rio de Janeiro Cuba continued making headlines with athletes born in the ‘’green alligator’’ representing other nations.

The most renowned case of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro is the Artemiseño hurdler Orlando Ortega, who preferred to embrace the spanish flag instead of ours. Yasmany Copello, 29, lives in Spain, but competed for Turkey. The boxer Lorenzo Sotomayor, 31, represented Azerbaijan and defeated his compatriot Yasnier Tolero. Osmany Juantorena, 31, from Santiago de Cuba represented the volleyball team of Italy. These medals are in Azerbaijan, Spain, Italy, Chile or even in the North Pole, but they taste of Cuba.

No one can deny the development of Cuban sport and quality and training of our athletes. It is true that today we have a critical situation. Implements deficit, little international experience and exodus of athletes tarnish a better performance at the Olympics.

Nevertheless, Mijaín López, Reinier Borrero and Julio Cesar la Cruz covered with gold our island; everyone, inside and outside the archipelago, is proud of them. Long live Cuban sport, although there are detractors. Nevertheless, it is ours. It competes, wins, and makes waving the national flag. Therefore we are proud of our sport.
