
Havana - US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx will travel to Cuba tomorrow to hold a meeting with authorities in the island, Cuban Transportation Development Vice Minister Eduardo Rodriguez confirmed.
Starting tomorrow, regular direct flights will be restored, with the arrival at the International Airport in the central province of Santa Clara of an Airbus A-320 of the airline JetBlue that will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as part of the process to implement the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both countries in February.
According to Rodriguez, Foxx appeared interested in meeting in Havana with his Cuban peer Adel Yzquierdo and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, an opportunity to deal with bilateral issues.
The Cuban official called the reestablishment of direct flights from the United States as a positive step and a contribution to the process of improving the relations between both countries, and asserted that negotiations were being held with US authorities to include that territory in the destinations of the flights operated by Cubana de Aviacion.
Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute President Alfredo Cordero reiterated that Cuba was ready to assume the increase of the number of flights to international airports with full operational and aviation security.
