Cuban airport ready for first US regular flight

Cuba-The Abel Santamaria international airport, located in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara, is ready to receive the JetBlue Airbus A-320 tomorrow, the first scheduled flight for the US to Cuba in more than five decades.
Airport director Omar Gil, told ACN news agency that personnel at the airport had received intensive training to face the increase of operations that come with the restart of US regular flights and more coming for all over the world.
Gil said that flights from the United States to this airport started in 2013, with charters, and passengers were pleased with the services they provide.
He noted there has been a spike in the numbers of passengers in the last years related to the development of the tourist areas in Cayo Santa Maria, on the northern coast of this province. In the first months of 2016 they had already received 281 thousand people.
The official added that in March the airport handled 101 flights a week as average, and despite this being the tourism low season they 53 planes land here every week
The Abel Santa Maria received its first international flight on December 23, 2001, and today is the third largest in Cuba in terms of passengers, trailing the Havana´s José Marti, and Varadero´s Juan Gualberto Gomez
