Zika on the Spotlight of US-Cuba Forum
US and Cuban experts will meet November in Havana during a two-day Zika forum in what is considered the first forum of its kind since both countries reestablished diplomatic relations a year ago.
According to world media, the US experts have express their eagerness to help Cuba join international health programs backed by the United States after half a century without significant bilateral professional interaction.
Thousands of Zika cases have been reported in the region, particularly Brazil, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
International health experts say that other countries may learn from the Cuban experience against Zika, since the Cuban response has been very effective. Dr. Cristian Morales, representative of the World Health Organization in Cuba stressed the capacity of Cuban authorities to organize and educate the people, an action which is difficult to achieve in other countries.
The island is one of the few nations in the western hemisphere which have prevented large spread of Zika. Only three cases have been reported as local and another 30 imported.
