Cuba Expresses Concern on Current World Panorama

Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Thursday at the 17th Non-Aligned Summit in Margarita Island, Venezuela, that most principles adopted in 2006 in Havana by the Non-Aligned Movement are not being systematically honored.

The sovereignty of the nations and their right to self-determination and to sovereign equality rights are not only still to be achieved, but the facts that make those principles vulnerable continue to aggravate each passing day, said the minister, who expressed concerned about the failure of reaching peace, international security and cooperation as it was aspired.

The Havana Declaration included the abstention by all countries to resort to pressures or coercion on other nations, including the use or encouragement of unilateral measures that run contrary to international rights, the minister recalled and noted that the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba is still there as it inflicts damage on the Cuban people.

Though the main objectives of the 2006 Havana summit have not been reached, the Non-Aligned Movement has been preserved, despite those who predicted its disappearance, he noted, and called for hard work to increase solidarity as a principle for relations and actions of all Non-Aligned member on any circumstance, in defending sovereignty and international law, including the event of open confrontation with the interests and supremacy-oriented intentions by the superpowers.

The 17 Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement concludes over the weekend with the meeting of Heads of State and the adoption of the Margarita Declaration and Venezuela taking over the Movement´s pro-tempore presidency.
