Moscow - The agreement signed between the corporation Biocubafarma and Russia''s Skolkovo Center will have very positive results for the introduction of Cuban medicines in this country, the scientific advisor Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart said here.

The signing of the deal on Tuesday will have very positive results for our country and for the introduction of medicines that are so necessary for the Russian people and the countries of the Community of Independent States (CIS) to treat diseases, he pointed out.

Dr. Castro Diaz-Balart told Prensa Latina that Heberprop-p, a one-of-a-kind Cuban drug, will be introduced in the Russian market, as well as other drugs from the hi-tech portfolio and new medications.

In addition, we expect that this will be the first of other agreements in the hi-tech industries and other sectors that have a broad base of knowledge in Cuba, noted the scientific advisor of Cuban President Raul Castro.

Regarding the book launched at the high-technology conference 'Science for Innovation: Cuba's Experience', he recalled that its first edition was presented at the Globelix event held in Havana in September 2015.

Globelix is an organization that groups scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs from practically all over the world and the book was launched there for the first time, he recalled.

Afterwards, it was present at Havana's International Book Fair by a Mexican publishing house based in Monterrey. The book has a second edition in English, he said.

Now this third edition in Russian was printed in record time due to the interest of the organizers of the 33rd World Conference of the International Association of Technological Parks and Investments, Dr. Castro Diaz-Balart pointed out.

After learning about the content of the book, the organizers considered that it might be useful not only in our environment or in the academic world, but also in technology-based enterprises, the so-called start-up companies, he added. The book might be in Russian bookstores as of October, he said.

Biotechnology in Cuba plays a major role due to the correct strategy of the Cuban Revolution and the vision of its leader, Fidel Castro, who perceived the role of man and women of science and thought since 1960, he noted.

Dr. Castro Diaz-Balart highlighted the role of the sciences related to aspects of medicine and other sciences for life due to their importance for Cuban and world health. We have achieved a high level in the world and Cuban biotechnology represented by the entrepreneurial group Biocubafarma is a great example of how an advanced research center is transformed into a hi-tech center, he stated.

Such efforts in Cuba's field of high technology are based on past knowledge, on a scientific and innovative system, on more than 200 institutions and on universities that played a major role in supporting and developing this sector, the experts noted.

For several years, there was scientific and innovative exchange with Russia, and cooperation has been established with its Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Castro Diaz-Balart added.

Some products have already been included in the portfolio of medications that can be used here, he announced.

Others will be introduced in the Russian market and will be of undoubted benefit for society and people, the driving force that has been behind all this development in Cuba, he underlined.
