
Santiago de Cuba- Specialists and authorities will assess here a project of international cooperation aimed at the recovery of houses in a steady and sustainable way following the damages caused by the hurricane Sandy, a little more than two years of its implementation.
Sources of the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), responsible for the plan, which is financed by the Russian Federation, said that on September 26th to 27th the final workshop on the project will take place.
According to data issued by UNDP in Cuba, nine facilities of local production for construction materials were strengthened, while 46 new equipment were purchased and some 28 ones were recovered, along with an improved quality of control of concrete seeking higher security in construction.
The University of Oriente has given a decisive support to the project and its students with related careers stayed during their working practices at the centers of local production of construction materials, from which they also gathered experiences for their academic researches.
The economic damage caused in the country by the hurricane Sandy on October 25th, 2012, amounted to $10 billion USD and the province of Santiago de Cuba was the most severely hit, with a disastrous impact on housing, which already has an improved and recovered view.
