Cuba Celebrates World Tourism Day

Havana - Cuba is celebrating today the World Tourism Day with a renewed travel industry and the attention from the five continents to the peculiarities of this archipelago.

A statement of the sector recalls that we celebrate this date every September 27. The aim is to sensitize the international community about the importance of tourism, its social, cultural, political and economic value.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) adds in the note its optimism for the development of recreation in this country.

With the aim to foster debate on the contribution of tourism to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this time, the slogan is 'Tourism accessible to everyone.'

This promotes the need for an industry that takes into account the particularities of all and allow everyone to enjoy the diversity and attractions the planet offers.

About 15 percent of the world's population currently lives with a disability, so this international celebration has also become a unique opportunity to take awareness about this issue.

Cuba has joined efforts towards contributing to the integration of the population as of participation, education and social improvements, MINTUR says.

The Cuban tourism system, also inspired on achieving those accessibility goals, has contributed to tasks aimed at achieving the establishment of plans and strategies that propose new products, the text says.

MINTUR echoed today the celebrations for the World Tourism Day and invites all agents and tourist-receiving communities to meet, and celebrate the day as a symbol of common efforts for the community and touristic development.

Cuba currently has more than 62,000 rooms in about 300 hotels across the country, as well as private accommodations. The country receives more than three million travelers from around the world per year.
