Cuban Dance Company Marks its 57th Anniversary

Havana - The company Danza Contemporanea de Cuba will celebrate the 57th anniversary of its foundation with two integrated concert programs with main pieces of its current active repertoire, the institution confirmed here.

The Garcia Lorca hall at the Alicia Alonso Gran Teatro in Havana will host the celebration whose first show, on September 30, October 1 and 2, includes the works by three Cuban choreographers: 'El Cristal,' by Julio Cesar Iglesias;' Cenit,' by Laura Domingo; and 'Matria etnocentra,' by George Cespedes.

Meanwhile, Reversible, by Belgian-Colombian artist Annabelle Lopez Ochoa; 'Tangos cubanos,' by Scottish Billie Cowie; and 'Mambo 3XXI,' another success by Cuban Cespedes, winner of the 2002 Ibero-American Choreography Award, will be performed on October 7, 8 and 9.

For a version by this artist on Carmina Burana, the Cuban company won the 2009 Moon Award in Mexico.

In the 57 years of its foundation, Danza Contemporanea de Cuba has proved to be more than a sum of dancers in the service of a universal language.

Directed by Miguel Iglesias, the group has expanded its international presence and expressive possibilities when working with other renowned foreign choreographers such as Jan Linkens, Kenneth Kuanstrom, Luca Bruni, Rafael Bonachela and Mats Ek, among others.
