Uruguay: Cuban People's Strength in Struggle vs. Blockade Stressed

Montevideo -The member of the Communist Party of Uruguay, Jorge Mazzarovich, stressed the firm strength of the Cuban people and the Revolution in its struggle against the blockade imposed by the United States for more than 50 years.

During a conversation yesterday night about the validity of that economic, financial and commercial siege, the also former Montevideo ambassador to Havana stated that to find another example like that is very difficult 'due to the time it has taken and the seriousness of what that people has been and continues suffering.'

He said we do not always 'have the idea of the magnitude of what the blockade means,' stressing that this is an essential item for those who fight for democracy and against imperialism in the continent,' taking as a reference the firm resistance of the Cuban people.'

The Caribbean nation is the best example of how far the peoples can reach even in the most difficult conditions and called to refer to heroism, clarity, unity and strength of the Cuban people to resist entire decades of blockade, harassment, attacks, bombings and assassinations,' Mazzarovich said.

The blockade 'is a barbarity' and it is present in every aspect of life in Cuban society, he stated.

It is expressed in difficulties to 'form the basic issues of education, culture, food, health, the exchange of experiences and the brutal sanctions against banks,' he said.

He noted that the blockade has hit at all levels and 'it is still beating' and called not to be fooled in the fight against that siege because 'it is not finished or it is about to happen.'

The Broad Front member stated that 'we are going to continue fighting against the blockade' because the solidarity with Cuba is an integral part of the Uruguayan people.
